A year after, the second version of Carrera Solar Atacama was held, aiming to receive more teams and offering a longer and more challenging route, by adding a stage that passed through the town of San Pedro de Atacama.
The event traversed more than 1000 kilometers in four days, passing through the localities of Humberstone, Calama, San Pedro de Atacama and Baquedano, that embellished the course with majestic landscapes of the Atacama Desert.
The amount of entrant teams increased to 15, coming from Chile, Argentina and Venezuela. Seven teams took part on the Desafío Solar Atacama class and eight on La Ruta Solar.
After four hard days of competition, team Antakari would be crowned as the champion of the Desafío Solar Atacama class for two consecutive years, overcoming their classic rival Eolian in a tough race.
On La Ruta Solar, the winner was not certain until the last stretches of the course, in an arduous competition where every minute counted. Finally, team ACAPOMIL, who came from finishing in the third place on 2011, ended up raising the champions award, leaving behind teams CIS Diseño UNAB (2nd place) and Solar Mecatrónica UC (3rd place).
