There are two general vehicle classes in Carrera Solar Atacama 2018: Solar Class and Hybrid Class.
Solar Class vehicles are electric vehicles powered purely by solar energy obtained solar radiation captured by solar panels and stored in battery packs, reaching speeds of over 100 km/h. There is no budgetary limit in this class. Solar Class is divided into three sub-categories: CGE Challenger (single-occupant vehicles), Cruiser (two-or-more occupant vehicles), and Adventure (non-competitive category).
Hybrid Class vehicles are powered by both solar energy and human force, allowing them to reach speeds of up to 60 km/h. These vehicles seek to generate electromobility solutions for urban areas. In contrast to Solar Class vehicles, Hybrid Class vehicles have a limited budget. Hybrid class is divided into two sub-categories: SQM Hybrid Monoplaza and Hybrid Biplaza.
